Producer Race

Every Koinos block producer is a horse. Each block it signs moves it forward, and smaller producers get a handicap so every horse has the same chance. Four 6-hour races a day, starting at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00 UTC. Free, just for fun.

Results are final once every block of the race is irreversible and matches on two independent Koinos nodes, the same check the question game uses. Days are UTC days; weeks are the Knode Games weeks.

    How the handicap works

Same speed. Koinos picks who signs each block in proportion to VHP, so a producer with a third of the leader's VHP signs about a third as many blocks. It moves 3 steps per block, which gives every horse the same expected speed. The biggest producer always moves exactly 1 step per block.

Same chance. A small producer's few blocks come in lucky and unlucky bursts, which would let the smallest horses win most races. A luck trim evens that out:

    steps per block = (biggest VHP ÷ your VHP) × (1 − c ÷ √k) ÷ (1 − c ÷ √k of the biggest)

Here k is how many blocks a producer is expected to sign in a 6-hour race (luck in k blocks is about √k). c is re-tuned on every card by thousands of simulated races (the same ones for everyone) to the value where each horse's chance of winning is as equal as it gets.

Six cards per race. The handicap is set from VHP at the start and updated every hour. Each card applies to the blocks signed in its hour, so moving VHP around during a race buys at most an hour. Cards are recorded publicly by the race recorder.

The finish line is the 6-hour mark. You see the real live order all the way to the end: the track is drawn so the leader gets close to the line, and only the winner crosses it when the 6 hours are up. The winner is the horse with the most steps at the 6-hour mark.
